56% 'experience mobile phone coverage problems'

Mobile phone coverage problems are experienced by 56 per cent of consumers across the UK, a new report has stated.

The Communications Consumer Panel (CCP) conducted research and also found that 91 per cent of small businesses have the same difficulties.

As a result, the organisation has called on Ofcom to collaborate with networks to improve this situation and make more information available to users.

Some of the respondents to the survey said coverage problems included delayed text messages and dropped calls.

And despite technology aimed at developing new services such as mobile broadband, work on bettering basic connections is required, the CCP commented.

Chair Anna Bradley said a scheme enabling customers to try before they buy a mobile phone could be a good idea.

"If they don't get coverage, take it back," she suggested. "It's essential that consumers aren't trapped into contracts that don't give them the coverage they need."

The comments come nine months after the government's Digital Britain report, which included specific proposals on topics such as universal access to broadband.

Is your mobile phone network good enough?
