Sky hits iPhone with new TV app

A new downloadable application has been launched that means some smartphone buyers may never need miss their favourite sporting events.

Sky TV announced this week that users of the Apple iPhone 3G S could now head to the online App Store and get a new widget that will offer them access to a host of televised content.

Once installed on the touchscreen handset, subscribers can sign up to a service for £6 per month that will allow them to watch programming on the gadget.

Some of the channels currently listed as available on the software include Sky Sports, Sky Sports News, Sky News, ESPN and At The Races, but users will also need to ensure they have acquired a special ID.

David Gibbs, general manager for mobile at the broadcasting firm, said: "Sky Mobile TV offers more choice, control and flexibility for customers ensuring they can access the content they want, at a time that's convenient to them."

This week also saw the Apple iPhone become available on the Orange network.
