O2 announces Samsung Galaxy

O2 has announced that it will bring the latest phone to boast Google's Android operating system to its network.

Following on from the HTC Magic and Hero, as well as the T Mobile G1, users will be able to access all of the system's facilities with the Samsung Galaxy - which is available now.

The device, which also uses the name i7500, features a 256 Mhz Qualcomm chipset and five-megapixel camera, as well as a 3.2-inch AMOLED screen, 3G, Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi support.

An 8 GB of internal memory is expandable to 32 GB when a MicroSD card is used and Steve Alder, general manager of devices for O2's parent company Telefonica Europe, said the phone is the latest in a long line of top acquisitions.

"O2 has become the home of smartphones and launching our first Android-powered phone with Samsung is a key part of this," he said.

"What I love about the Samsung Galaxy is the great user experience and the fantastic range of apps it brings to even more customers," he noted.

Would you trade in your G1 for this?
