Motorola announces green sponsorship

Motorola has reaffirmed its commitment to environmentally-friendly practises by announcing its support for a new global initiative.

The company announced this week it will sponsor the Earth Day Network and Green Apple Festival in a bid to educate consumers on the importance of making sure their old devices are not sent to landfill.

As part of the event, the firm will be showcasing its Moto W233 Renew, the world's first mobile phone to be certified as carbon-free, thanks to its green manufacturing processes and recyclable components.

Commenting on the announcement, Motorola's senior vice president of public affairs and communications Karen Tandy said supporting the events were just one way in which it was employing more eco-friendly processes.

"With products like Renew, our recycling initiatives and partnerships with leading environmental organizations … we're able to drive environmentally responsible innovation in the world of technology," she said.

Other phones in the Motorola range include the music-focused ROKR series.
