New phones and allegiances on first day of MWC

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) has began today (February 15th) with new handsets and agreements unveiled.

A Wholesale Applications Community was set-up by 24 telecommunications operators in order to try to build apps which will be available to all mobile phone users.

And a new Android handset from Motorola was among those unveiled to the worldwide public.

The Barcelona-based event saw the announcement of an agreement by a group of networks, which together has three billion customers – to build a platform of apps.

LG Electronics, Samsung and Sony Ericsson are also in support of the group's plans.

Motorola DEXT 'tempts Bebo users'

Motorola Dext phone will soon be integrated with the Bebo social networking portal.

This is according to Pocket Lint, which said the DEXT, with its Android skin, will give users access to the site as well as Twitter, Facebook, Gmail and Last.fm.

Users can also send, receive and edit updates on their Bebo profile from their homescreen, the website added.

"It is now even quicker and easier for users to gain immediate access to their Bebo experience while on the move," said Yoel Flohr, head of mobile at the social networking company.

Motorola DEXT vs Android HTC models

A recent article has pitted one of the latest Google Android-powered mobile phones against some of its established peers.

In a piece for Mobile Burn, Michael Oryl looked at the Motorola CLIQ, which is to be known across the UK as the DEXT when it is released in stores.

A new handset has been launched by Motorola that one expert believes could be of interest to those who favour messaging over voice calls.

In an article for Mobile Burn this week, Brian James Kirk looked at the manufacturer's new i465 Clutch device and drew particular attention to its various text-based features.

Motorola Headset HX1 'built for most environments'

A new headset from Motorola is said to provide a comfortable and "premium" experience that helps cancel out noise.

The manufacturer said its Endeavor HX1 model combines CrystalTalk innovation with a stealth mode to enable good sound "in the fiercest environments".

Although targeted at the eco-friendly user, there is actually much more to the Motorola W233 Renew than one would think, it has been advised.
